"Trashing" Stephen Colbert for Bears

Omss-- Over the last two weeks, you’ve done a lot of great work to raise awareness about our polar, grizzly and black bears as part of our ColBEAR campaign. And as Bear Awareness Week winds down, I want to give you one last chance to “trash” Stephen Colbert… and help save some bears.

Omss,

We’ve got America thinking about bears. Since we launched our tongue-in-cheek ColBEAR campaign last week poking fun at Stephen Colbert for his ridiculous and hilarious attacks on bears…

  • One thousand plush bears – donated by caring people like you – were delivered to Stephen Colbert.

  • More than 57,000 people have told Mr. Colbert to stop bullying bears.

  • Nearly 80,000 people have watched our ColBEAR videos featuring Ed Asner and Cloris Leachman on YouTube.

And, most importantly, we’ve raised more than $24,000 to help protect the lives of polar bears, grizzly bears, black bears and other imperiled wildlife across the country!

Unfortunately, Stephen didn’t have the… ahem, spine to respond to our campaign, so I want to give you one last chance to let him know what you think of his baseless attacks on our bears.

“Trash” Stephen Colbert. Donate now to help purchase a bear-resistant trash bin that we’ll name in Colbert’s honor.

Bears, like a lot of us, are always looking for a free lunch… especially polar bears that live in the rugged Arctic.

Unfortunately, as climate change melts their habitat, more of our threatened polar bears are making their way inland. Some are even finding their way to human communities in their search for food.

Trouble can ensue when exposed garbage entices them near humans – rather than staying in the wild where bears belong.

That’s why for years Defenders of Wildlife has helped purchase bear-resistant garbage bins to help folks in bear country live peacefully with their ursine neighbors.

Now you can help us keep bears out of trouble… and take one last shot at Stephen Colbert’s anti-bear rants. Make a tax-deductible donation now to help purchase a bear-resistant trash bin and support other wildlife-saving efforts.

Unfortunately, this time we weren’t able to get the “bear facts” in front of Colbert’s millions of viewers. However, with your help, we can keep bears in the wild where they belong.
