Come and see Little Bobo at the Zoo
A theatre performance for children aged 3 to 12
If you enjoyed the Kaleidoscope Ensemble's production of Edward and Edwina the Emus at Perth Zoo in 2009, you're going to love their new show, Little Bobo.
The show is an adaptation of a beautifully illustrated book (also called Little Bobo) by Serena Romanelli and Hans deBeer. Renowned broadcaster Peter Holland will be back as narrator. He is joined by six musicians and an adorable one metre tall orangutan puppet.
So what's the story about?
Bobo the little orangutan finds a violin in the jungle and soon becomes an enthusiastic musician. However, disaster strikes when a crocodile comes onto the scene. Bobo's uncle finds a way to save the day but you'll have to see the show to see how.
There will be all sorts of instruments to see and hear, and the audience can even try some of them marimba, cello, bass clarinet, guitar, flute, lots of percussion instruments, a concertina and of course, a violin. The show is suitable for children aged 3 to 12.
Little Bobo promises to be a great show so book your tickets early. School performances run from 26-29 September with two shows a day at 9:45 am and 11:00 am. Little Bobo is also showing at the Zoo during the school holidays from 10-14 October at 10:00 am and 11:30 am.
Tickets can be booked from Perth Zoo Discovery and Learning from Monday 11 July on 9474 0365 and cost $16 for children and $27 for adults. No discounts apply.
The illustrated book is available through www.kaleidoscopeensemble.com or phone 9387 5336.
Tiwest Night Stalk...what's it all about?
Grab a torch and spotter's log and discover Australia's wildlife under the stars!
Did you take part in Night Stalk in 2010? If not, then why not get involved this year and help celebrate 2011 International Year of Forests?
In recognition and support for this global initiative, this year's Tiwest Night Stalk is calling you to action and invites you to explore your local 'forests' and record the number of faunal species you see.
Tiwest Night Stalk runs from 1 September to 16 October and aims to get members of the community out into nature to do some spotlighting for wildlife. It makes a great Father's Day or school camp activity.
Tiwest Night Stalk is easy, fun and something everyone can do. All you need is a torch and a copy of the Spotter's Log. Choose a night or number of nights between 1 September and 16 October and spotlight in your local forest/bushland. Record all of the mammals, birds, bats, reptiles and frogs that you see and then send your Spotter's Log to Perth Zoo or email it via the online form.
For more information go to www.perthzoo.wa.gov.au/nightstalk or come to the briefing night on Tuesday 9 August . Download the Teacher Professional Learning brochure and registration form (pdf).
