 TXU Energy Presents Chill Out at the Houston Zoo Houston summers are hot but the Houston Zoo is cool. This summer, relax as you watch our animals enjoy icy treats. From ice-pops for our otters to daily elephant baths, our animals will be keeping cool all summer long. If you need a break from the sun while you're here, you can always stop into one of the Zoo's 13 indoor, air-conditioned buildings.

World Oceans Day June 8, 2011 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The Houston Zoo joins zoos and aquariums world wide to make a splash on Wednesday, June 8 in observance of World Ocean's Day. This year World Ocean's Day celebrates the beloved Dr. Seuss book, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.
Join us on June 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for readings of Dr. Seuss's children's book as well as special sea lion presentations (learn more about how Astro the sea lion came to the Houston Zoo) and enrichment activities with denizens of the deep such as lionfish, piranha, and otters, just to name a few!
Kids and families will get to know funny fish "from here to there" and learn how everyday actions impact their ocean home. Children can also enjoy making a special craft to take home as a reminder of World Ocean's Day!

 Photo NIGHT! June 9, 2011 6:30 p.m - 8:30 p.m. Join us for a WILD night of photo ops at the carnivore habitats. Take advantage of the dusk lighting, receive a light meal, and roam the carnivore areas an hour and a half after normal Zoo closing.
Enjoy a brief introduction to night time photography given by Abel Longoria, owner and founder of Texas Photo Forum. Following this introduction, you can have a chat with the carnivore Keepers and get memorable photos of the animals as they receive special treats and enrichment items. June 18, 2011 8:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Methai, Tess, Shanti, Tucker, Thai, Baylor, and Tupelo invite you to explore their home - their very LARGE home! Their state-of-the-art elephant barn will be open for you to explore. Learn about elephant diets, care, training, chat with the Keepers who care for the elephants daily, and more. A continental breakfast is included. For an even more one-of-a-kind experience, purchase a photo with one of our elephants! The photos are printed at the event, and make a great keepsake!
