A new doll is inspired by Adele Bloch-Bauer, Klimt's famous Austrian Jewish model. It's one of a new series of collector's edition dolls dedicated to great works of art.
She was the model for (and possibly the lover of) Gustav Klimt, whose ravishing golden portrait of her, finished in 1907 and modeled on Byzantine mosaics of Empress Theodora in Ravenna, came to symbolize the edgy glamour of fin de siècle Vienna. But it was only after her death in 1925 that Adele Bloch-Bauer became a worldwide celebrity, when the shimmering portrait became the focus of an international legal battle over its status as Nazi war loot. Eventually restituted to the niece of the sitter, Portrait of Adele Bloch I became famous for yet another reason: In 2006, it was sold to Ronald Lauder for a reported $135 million, said to be the highest price paid for an artwork at the time. "Our Mona Lisa," as Lauder called her, now resides in the Manhattan museum he founded, the Neue Galerie, across Fifth Avenue from the Metropolitan Museum, and she has begun earning her keep by inspiring a jewelry line designed and executed by experts from the Gem Palace Jaipur, offering such steals as an $8,750, 22-carat spiral cuff bracelet. Dog Festival

Zippy

Event will benefit Animal Rescue League & include demonstrations, activities, contests & adoptions

Hartwood Acres Park to Host "Dog Day Festival" on Sunday, July 10

The Allegheny County Special Events Office and Huntington Bank invite all dogs, dog owners and dog lovers to the Dog Day Festival from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, at the Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater.

The event is free and is presented by Allegheny County and Huntington Bank. The day will feature information from and demonstrations by a number of groups, including Allegheny and Armstrong County Detectives and their canines, and the Reading withRover Program. The Animal Rescue League will be on hand with pets available for adoption.

Owners may have photos taken with their pets or get a special doggy caricature. A dog nutritionist will offer advice and recommendations, and there will be entertainment for the dogs, including bobbing for hot dogs, a canine kissing contest and dog and master look-alike competition.

There will be free giveaways such as dog bones and food, dog scarves, water bowls, tennis balls, Frisbees and PETCO coupons, while supplies last. A PETCO specialist, dog fashion designers from Embroidery from the Heart, and representatives from DogWatch of Greater Pittsburgh and Back to Basics Petfood will also participate in the Day with Doggy prize baskets to be raffled to benefit the Animal Rescue League.

The festival will close with a performance by band "Good Brother Earl" at 4:00 p.m.

"We are pleased to join Allegheny County in sponsoring this exciting event, which will support the extraordinary work of the Animal Rescue League," said Donna Gibson, vice president, retail for Huntington Bank. "We hope to break last year's attendance of both people and their dogs and we invite everyone to join our team of Huntington volunteers on July 10."

Hartwood Acres Park is home to one of Allegheny County's off-leash dog areas. The others are located in North Park, South Park and White Oak Park.
