Louisiana Dog in Need of a Home - He looks like a flat-coated retriever.I recently took in a young retriever mix who had been abandoned by his previous owners, was in kinda rough shape and bound for a high-kill shelter. I wasn't I a position to take him, but when I met him I decided I'd delay the inevitable and try to find a group to take him. Figured, I could always take him to the shelter myself if he was aggressive, destructive, etc. After having him less than one day, I knew he couldn't go to a situation where he might be killed - euthanized. Just too good a guy-housebroken, no food aggression issues, plays well with others, eager to please, doesn't bark, etc. etc. I went ahead and got his shots and microchip at my own expense (he was also neutered at the same time). He is heartworm positive, but I will also agree to bear that cost if I can find someone to take or foster him. My circumstances won't allow me to keep him very long, but I really need to find this pup a good situation.He is a young guy, vet said born last summer. Attached are some pictures and a write up I did for posting on an adoption site. I really like this little pup, but my personal circumstances (let's just say my life is in a bit of disarray at the moment) and an old dog that thinks the new guy is lunch make keeping him nearly impossible. I'll hang on as long as I have to though (just can't send him to a shelter where he might be euthanized - he is a great dog and deserves a decent life). Any leads on a foster or permanent home would be greatly appreciated. I'm in south Louisiana but I'll make a road trip to get him placed. I'll can also pay food/vet expenses while he is fostered, and,like I said before, my commitment to this dog includes paying for heartworm treatments. I've only had him three weeks but he has really won me over. I just want him to go to someone who cares. ElliottContact:Elliott Vega

Wonderful dog: Despite the intentional burn he is recovering from he is a dream. He is gentle, calm and even seems housetrained as he holds it until he is out of his kennel. I can't believe someone would hurt this dog. He's also a young adult. Embedded media -- click here to see it.

Mitzi is a 6 month old female, 9.7 lbs., with a sweet, gentle personality. She was abandoned by her previous family and turned over to a local animal shelter. Mitzi had to receive a therapeutic groom, as she was matted to the skin all over her body. This adorable little girl is just a darling and is ready to play or sit in the lap of anyone that will pet her silky coat. Mitzi is up to date on all vaccines, spayed, microchipped, crate trained, housebroken and very eager to please. She plays well with other dogs and is currently in a foster home.
