share market ! how to invest?

  • Don't try to time the market.  As tempting as it is to try, it is not possible to time the stock market.  People have written millions of pages of research on this topic and NO ONE has ever found a legitimate way to determine its trends.
  • Use cost averaging.  By buying stocks on a periodic basis (like once a paycheck, once a month or even once a year), you will always be buying at an average price.  If you try to time the market, you may be buying at a high or low valuation.
  • Take taxes into account.  When you buy stocks, try to hold them for more than one year so you get taxed at the long term capital gains rate, which is currently 18%.  If you sell your stock before one year, you will be taxed at your ordinary income tax rate, which is almost always higher than 18%, sometimes twice as high.Invest as much as possible into tax-sheltered 401K, 403B and IRAs.  By investing in tax deferred plans, you are able to invest money and not worry about the tax implications.  With 401K and 403B plans, you get to invest your earnings before taxes, so the investment will grow on a higher base.  For example, if you received a paycheck for $2,000 gross pay and taxes were taken out, you'd be left with only $1,200 or so to invest.  The investment return on $1,200 could be substantial, but if you could invest that same $2,000 in a tax deferred account, you would be investing and earning a return on $2,000 instead of $1,200.  Also, many employers offer matching investments that could make that $2,000 investment equivalent to a $4,000 investment.  Put as much as you can into these tax deferred investments.
  • Diversify your investments.   Don't just invest in stocks.  It is better if you diversify your investments into other asset classes including real estate (a house), cash (savings account or CD) and maybe even bonds.  That way, if one asset class really underperforms, you will have some exposure to the better performing assets.Diversify your stocks (mutual funds).  When investing in the stock market, don't load up on just one or two stocks.  Diversify your investments across many stocks. If your portfolio is not large enough to buy 15 or more different stocks, you should consider purchasing one or more mutual funds to ensure diversification.

The French-Israeli singer Yael Naïm—you know her work from that MacBook Air ad—brings an elusive, shifting identity to her mysterious but catchy songs of love and loss
It was around 9:30 on a Monday evening as Yael Naïm's band finished the opening song of its set. Naïm continued to play the piano, gradually feeling her way toward a new chord progression. On certain nights, Le Poisson Rouge, a sub-sidewalk-level venue in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, sets tables, club-style, throughout the floor. Only a few tables were out on this May night, though, and only on a small deck in the back of the house for a crowd of a few hundred people. More

What about me?

Second Chance Animal Shelter, Inc.

What about me?

Dear omss,

Spring is in full swing now and so are the mosquitoes and ticks.  If you do not have your dog on heartworm preventative, it is extremely important to get your dog tested and on preventative.  Second Chance took in 10 heartworm positive dogs from a hoarding case a little over a month ago.  Sadly, two of these dogs passed away from this awful disease.  This is a preventable disease so it is important to take care of your dog so that they never have to suffer the fate of these dogs.

Sincerely,

Sheryl Blancato

Second Chance Animal Shelter
Thank you to the Mason's!

WHAT ABOUT ME?

Faye is still waiting for that forever home

Countless dogs have come into Second Chance and found their forever home.  But, Faye is still here.  Why?  Simply because she is a pitbull (or mix thereof).  She was abandoned by her former owners.  This sweet girl is in a foster home and loves her family, especially the children.  Her dream of a forever home, though, is still a dream.
Please look beyond her breed to the big heart within.  Pass on her information to anyone looking for that special canine companion.  She is a queen and therefore wants to be the only pet.  But, she has enough love to give so that Faye is all you need.

FayeTo know Faye is to love Faye!

How Can Birds Eat If They Have No Teeth?

Most of us know that birds lack teeth.  So how do they digest the hard grains and seeds many eat?

Their secret is an oddly named organ called the gizzard.

Heaven Scent
White-tail deer typically have 1-3 young about six months after the fall rutting season. The young are usually sent on their own about a year after birth-- just before the mother gives birth to her next round of young.

A newborn fawn spends a lot of time alone, even if it’s a twin or triplet.

Yet it’s remarkably safe for such a feeble creature. That’s because a fawn is all but invisible to predators—who neither see nor smell it.

Heard, But Almost Never Seen

Most folks have heard of the Whip-poor-will, but very few have seen one because it blends so well into its woodland habitat.

Many creatures use camouflage to hide— some even use it to hunt.

Read on to find out what other animals you might have heard, but not seen.
