Never mind the nice Jewish girls like Natalie Portman, the most compelling character in today's pop culture is Amy Winehouse, a Jewish mother's worst nightmare but still daddy's little girl
In many ways, this has been the season of the Good Jewish Girl. Next week, the proudly Jewish, defiantly curly-haired Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz—a woman "so, so excited to be Jewish"—will become the second woman to lead the Democratic National Committee. Two months ago, the elegant, shiny-haired, opportunely pregnant Natalie Portman ascended the podium at the Academy Awards to collect the Best Actress Oscar—a day before valiantly standing up to her sartorial patron in defense of her people. And Portman took this turn as our modern-day Esther shortly after 21-year-old Loren Galler Rabinowitz became the first Jew to compete for the Miss America title since Bess Myerson won in 1945. "A lot of my friends were taking a gap year in order to make money for school—taking jobs at banks and things," Galler Rabinowitz said. "I wanted to spend a year doing public service, which I've always been extremely passionate about. And this year seemed like my last opportunity before jumping on the hamster wheel of med school." Purebred Schnauzers and Weimaraner Dogs needing rescue Thibodaux, Louisiana

These three dogs are at a dog pound in Thibodaux, Louisiana ( New Orleans area)

11-315D "Pepper" and 11-316D "Salt" are both female Schnauzer mixes (looks like purebred Schnauzers to me) that came in as strays. They both do not make in the kennel and know the word kennel when it is time to go inside. They do not like being separated and don't care for other dogs. I figured them to be about 2 years of age or older.

11-344D is a male Weimaraner who we named Charlie. He is not fixed, about 3 years of age or older, does not make in his kennel, knows the commands: sit, stay, paw and kennel. I weighed him this morning and he weighs 87 lbs.

PB German Shepherd Puppy @ Hammond Louisiana Shelter

Sorry I forgot to add the two photos to this posting.

Six-month female German Shepherd puppy (age guess). Stray; very traumatized - scared; spent time just trying to make her warm up -- eventually wagged tail

Message from Carole; email her if you need more info about how the dog acted. Carole visits the shelter dogs about once a week; email cmcallister @ selu. edu (remove spaces).

RESCUE GROUPS: Tangipahoa Parish Animal Control Shelter (TPAC) is happy to work with rescue groups. Contact the facility with proof of your 501(3)(C) status. Fax or email copy of your paperwork.

Info from the TPAC Director, Chip Fitz:

Rescues have to be registered as a non profit in good standing with the Sec. of States Office. We check this on each group. In addition we need a letter with the names of representatives they will use. This letter will have to come from one of the people (Officers) listed with the State. Our system does not do auto notifications on the animals posted. Rescues will have to check http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/LA32.html often to check what animals are in TPAC.

Crystal Hawkins is Kennel Manager. She is who will have the answers rescuers will be looking for on the animals.

Save a life! Spay or neuter your pets.

The Magnolia Chapter was formed in the spring of 2008 by a group of people concerned about the large number of un-neutered, un-spayed roaming and/or abandoned cats and dogs in our community.

Our mission statement:"To establish a fund for emergency animal rescue and care, while reducing the numbers of unwanted animals in Washington Parish through education, spay/neuter programs and adoption/foster programs."
