Special Needs Basset Hound Dog -Annabelle looking for a home ASAP

Message from Leslie of Looziana Basset Rescue in Louisiana:

Annabelle needs a miracle. She is a special needs basset hound girl who will require a loving caretaker for the rest of her life. I realize that this is a long shot and that she will probably have to be put down but I had to at least try one more time to help a sweet, loving, precious girl.

She came to Looziana Basset Rescue about 7 weeks ago from a high kill shelter in McComb, MS. We took her in, vaccinated her, spayed her, removed a benign mammary tumor, and then started heartworm treatment. She was sailing through heartworm treatment and was halfway through when, all of a sudden last Thursday, she ruptured a disc in her back and her back legs are now paralyzed. This occurred while she was being kenneled at our vet and only leash walked.

We thought about having surgery done but the prognosis was very poor. She is currently at our vet clinic in ICU on a morphine, ketamine and cortisone drip. She is resting comfortably but cannot walk and is incontinent. We have consulted with 4 different veterinarians/surgeons and they all agree that she will probably never walk again.

If there is anyone out there with an excellent vet reference who would be interested in giving sweet Annabelle a permanent home, please let me know. She has a wonderful personality and I truly believe that she would do well with a cart. I am trying to do everything that I can to save her life. Please share this story, including the pictures of her in ICU that I took yesterday.

I will have to find a home for her by mid-week or make the difficult decision to euthanize her. If you would be interested in giving Annabelle a loving home, please contact me ASAP at QueenB534@aol.com.

Thanks to all of you who care so much about our beloved bassets,

Leslie Wallace, President and Founder
