Second Chance
Mission Statement

Sounds relatively straight forward. The common view held by most is that the shelter takes in those animals that, for a number of reasons, some good; some not so good, need shelter and care. But our work goes much deeper; much of which is not visible to our visitors who walk into the shelter and see the animals in our kennels. There is so much more that Second Chance does. We have been able to be far more reaching than simply a shelter that provides space for dogs and cats to be safe until their forever homes can be found. We have reached far beyond the borders of our little town of East Brookfield....

'In Touch' With
Your Cat's Health

Regular visits to the veterinarian are an essential part of keeping your cat healthy. An excellent way for you to keep tabs on him in between vet visits is to do your own nose-to-tail checkups at home.

Get in the habit of running your hands all over your cat's body whenever he's cuddling with you or you're grooming him. This is the best way to discover problems before they become serious.

Call your veterinarian if you find any of these conditions...

President's Message...

On the move.... That is the only way to describe the activity level at the shelter these days. It is hard for someone just walking in the shelter to fully realize all that is going on at once in the shelter. Right now the Wellness Center is performing spay/neuter surgeries 5 days a week. Thanks to grant funding from Petsmart Charities, all new medical equipment was purchased so that our facility is state of the art. The expectation is that we will do between 5,000 and 8,000 surgeries this year. A couple of times a month there are also vaccination clinics being held to further help keep pets healthy. Add to that, the Wellness Center is getting ready to embark on additional expansion. Thanks to a partnership with the Bay Path Vocational School, the Wellness Center will be getting a beautiful seminar room in the building. This is expected to take place later this fall. This will further expand the new training programs, enable us to provide training classes to a broader and larger range of people, and have space to expand existing, and start, new programs. Plans are also underway to add a thrift store on the premises to help raise much needed funds. As if that was not enough, an Eagle Scout has taken on building a dog park on the premises so the community pets can have a safe fenced in yard to enjoy. And that is only some of what is going on at the Wellness Center...
