Happy 1st Birthday, Kesi Kesi turns one year old on June 3. Kesi the giraffe turns one year old on Friday, June 3, and she's more than ready for the celebration.  Standing 9-1/2 feet tall and weighing 600 pounds, Kesi is the darling of the seven-member giraffe herd. "Kesi still gets playful, especially with her half-sister, Zahra," says zoo keeper Aimee Fannon.  Zahra is just seven months older than Kesi, so the two are fast friends.  Jelani, the zoo's bull giraffe, is the father of Kesi and Zahra; Luna is Kesi's mother, and Zuri is Zahra's mother. Though Kesi still nurses from Luna occasionally, she spends most of her time away from mom on the 2-acre giraffe yard.  She's tall enough to reach the hay feeder this year, but not quite tall enough to reach the feeding platform to get lettuce from zoo guests.  But who knows - at the rate she's growing, Kesi may be taking lettuce from your hand by the end of the summer! Join the celebration Friday 1-3 pm! Meet us in the African Village from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3 to sign Kesi's birthday card.  At 2:00 p.m., zoo keepers will deliver a special birthday treat to Kesi and the rest of the herd.   See K'Zoo in your hometown parade It's festival time, so look for 'Zoo, the zoo's mascot, in your local parade!  K'Zoo loves to meet kids along the parade route, so be ready with a wave or a high five.  Click here for a list of K'Zoo's parades and appearances this summer!
