Twenty-two years ago, we rescued Zelda, the piglet. Pink and perfect, she became the first official Animal Place resident.
I soon discovered
how hard it is to run a sanctuary without help.
We cared for a growing population of farmed animals without assistance from others. Love does not feed animals, it does not heal them from sickness, and it does not house them against the cold.
