Lily's Story...

For those of you who are reading this edition of Mutt Matters and Cat Chatters, I am certain that you already know how rewarding our work in Rescue is since you are all a big part of what we do. It is an absolute honor and great opportunity to be the advocates for our "four legged" friends. Our days are filled with the joy of doing all we can to assist our animal friends who find themselves without a home and a family to love them and care for them. I want to share with you a particularly heartwarming story about one particular dog that came into our care recently. Her name is Lily... the cutest, most affectionate little mixed breed puppy you can imagine. She arrived at Second Chance through another rescue group as a 5-month-old puppy. She had been hit by a car and was picked up by Animal Control and held for the required time in that town's facility. No one came to claim Lily and her time was running out. She was rescued from the pound by one of Second Chance's rescue partners and thereby saved from euthanization.

President's Message...

It's already half way through 2011 and the shelter is again experiencing growth. The renovations at the East Brookfield adoption center are winding down. The inside is nearly complete, with the exception of the flooring in the dog areas. The fenced in yards are about to go back up. And, the final touches are hoped to be done in the next several weeks. It's been a long process between the hold up with the Town over permits, the weather delays, the theft of some of our construction supplies, and the general delays that construction brings. But, the end result is amazing. Larger, more comfortable kennels for the dogs, more space for visitors to interact with our adoptable pets, more space for the cats - and a new heating system that has cut our costs, and air conditioning for the first time. All good things for the animals that call Second Chance their temporary home. Thank you to everyone that contributed to the 10,000 tails makeover. We will be having an open house later this fall so everyone can come see the wonderful new additions.
