Dear omss,
It's hard to imagine how busy the shelter is until you step inside.  Just one look on the website tells part of the story.  Usually the shelter has over 100 animals at any time and a bunch of wonderful events to help raise much needed funds to care for them.  Below are a few things that are going on now.  We hope that you can join us at one of these events!

Wine and Beer Tasting Tickets Now on Sale!

There is limited seating for this event so get your tickets early!  This is our 3rd annual event and it is always a hit.
The event will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 5 pm - 7 pm at E B Flatts, Rt. 9, East Brookfield, MA.
There will be great food, wine, and beer to taste and enjoy.  In addition, there will be a silent auction to have some fun with.  Gather your friends and come along!

Black Cat Special Adoption Promotion end August 31st!

NaomiThe shelter is flooded with cats and kittens.  Cats and kittens at our shelter generally get adopted quickly.  But, at this time of year, with the increase in cat and kittens coming through our doors, there are more and more black and black and white cats overlooked.  So, we want to do something about it!  Let's help this overlooked group of cats and kittens get adopted.  From July 15 through August 31st, all black (and black/white) cat adoption fees are reduced to $25.00.  All black (and black/white) kitten adoption fees are reduced to $75.00.  The shelter wants to help these special cats and kittens get adopted quicker.
It's very sad to us to watch these beautiful silky black cats be overlooked simply because of old myths.  Let's help them get a home!!

Update on Mr. HIggins!

Mr Higgins, the shepherd that was left out in the rain near our shelter is improving.  His tail wagged for the first time the other day!  He is eating and slowly gaining some weight.
Good news - his heartworm test was negative.  Bad news - he is positive for lyme.  We can't begin treating him for the lyme until he finishes up his other medication for his skin.
He still has a long road ahead of him but he is looking better and even giving kisses!  We are thrilled to see this compared to the scared dog of only a week ago.
Mr. Higgins will need more treatments to take care of his skin, lyme disease, and get neutered.  But, he is on the road.  We have set up a page for him for anyone that would like to help with his medical costs.  To view, just click on http://www.secondchanceanimals.org/index.htm
and scroll down the page.  Thank you to everyone for their kind words and support!
Have you signed up yet?
The Run Walk Wag will be here before you know it!  Have you signed up to run in the 5 or 10 K or walk in the 2 mile walk to help shelter pets?  Don't forget you can "wag a little harder" and collect pledges as part of your run or walk to help even more.  Get signed up today at:
