Birds Get a Boost on the American Prairie Conservation Dollars at Work
When WWF helped a group of cattle ranchers in the Nebraska Sandhills receive Audubon's Important Bird Area status across their ranchlands, it was a victory for northern grassland birds. The 48,000-acre site is the first privately owned site in the state to receive the designation.
Now WWF is working with these third- and fourth-generation "Sandhillers" to develop a plan to improve private land management for both livestock and wildlife. The plan, which will include recommendations for grazing that enhance habitat for grassland birds, will help ranchers modify practices so they contribute to improving wildlife habitat. WWF is also encouraging ecotourism opportunities, such as Sandhills Safaris and bird watching, that capitalize on native wildlife.
The goal is to include over 100,000 acres in this collaborative effort. With so much land in private ownership across the Northern Great Plains, engaging landowners is vital to the long-term health of these grasslands.
We are pleased to offer the new WWF Paperless Membership program as a way we can work with you toward mutual sustainability. When you join WWF as a monthly Paperless Member, we pledge never to send you any paper mail... EVER!*
How does it work?
A Paperless Membership requires a monthly donation. WWF bills your contribution to your credit card or debits it from your bank account each month. Only active monthly donors can be Paperless Members.
As a Paperless Member, you will NOT receive any paper mail from us, cutting the costs of paper, postage and other resources.
That's right: You won't receive paper mail from us.
Once your Paperless Membership goes into effect (usually between 6 - 8 weeks after you join), you will not receive any paper mail from WWF so long as you continue to be an active WWF monthly donor and unless required by law or at your request.
In short, you receive less mail while knowing you are supporting us in the most effective way possible.
And, you get even more benefits.

Your monthly gift makes a difference.
As a monthly donor, you provide a steady stream of income for WWF's global conservation work. Over 83 cents of every dollar is dedicated to conservation activities worldwide, and your generosity allows us to direct funds more quickly into the field where they are needed most. WWF scientists and staff are hard at work around the globe, doing the critical on-the-ground work necessary to protect threatened species and their habitats to ensure their survival. Your donations help support programs that protect wildlife, ecosystems and our natural resources.
